I washed my roommates comforter with Tide and now there is a TON of soap scum stains..... ?

and i HAVE to get them out.

helpehelphelp.

:)

i heard vinegar might work?I washed my roommates comforter with Tide and now there is a TON of soap scum stains..... ?
Yeah, vinegar will work --- pour about 1/2 a cup into the wash basin while water is running, then put the comforter in. Wash it in hot water and once the cycle is over, wash it again with hot water.

The only reason it did that is because there was left over soap scum in the washer and the comforter wasn't able to agitate away from it.

Good luck!I washed my roommates comforter with Tide and now there is a TON of soap scum stains..... ?
Put the comforter back in the washer, fill it with water warm usually will work best, use no soap this time, add 1/2 cup white vinegar when the washer fills up and let it run through the cycle, this will break up the soap scum on the comforter and leave it smelling nice and fresh. A little tip for you add 1/4 cup white vinegar to every load at the beginning of the wash cycle with your laundry soap. This will help break up any remaining detergent in the clothes so that they come out cleaner and fresher. Laundry detergent and fabric softeners leave residue on the clothes and can make them look faded even if they aren't the vinegar breaks up and washes away the residue and the laundry detergent that you are using, which makes the clothes cleaner and fresher. I do this every load now and my clothes have never been fresher.
Was the comforter really crammed into the washing machine? It sounds like there wasn't enough room for it to agitate and properly rinse. If that is the case, and this will probably be a huge pain, but laundromats usually have a few jumbo size washers. You could take it there and re-wash it. That's my first thought. My second thought is, is the comforter actually washable or is it a dryclean only one? Sometimes weird things like that happen when it's dryclean only. And my third thought, if I am out to lunch on the first two suggestions is that you may have put in too much Tide. If that is the case, wash it again....and again.....and once more just for fun. Hope this helps!!!
your washes may not be big enough to handle the comforter to let it agitate really good and that is the problem you may need to take it to laundry mat to put it in a Big Boy washer so it will have room to get good and clean good luck hope this helps you out
Take it to the laundromat use the double load machine use only about a half a cup of vinegar no more soap. It was probably too big for your machine and couldn't rinse properly.
tide is the worst soap on the planet. even i know that and i don't wash clothes. proctor and gamble can't make anything that's any good.

I washed lights (pinks and yellows) w/a new pair of jeans. How do I get out the blue stains all over them??

Whatever you do, don't put the pinks and yellows in the dryer! It will set in the blue color. You can try and wash it again in cold water to get some more blue color out.

At this point you can try Super Iron Out, a multi-purpose rust stain remover in the washing machine, follow all label directions. Or if anymore else can suggest a product that might help. Good Luck.I washed lights (pinks and yellows) w/a new pair of jeans. How do I get out the blue stains all over them??
I think Shout makes a stain remover now just for that problem. You might possibly dye the whites and pinks...light blue? sorryI washed lights (pinks and yellows) w/a new pair of jeans. How do I get out the blue stains all over them??
Rit color remover in the laundry isle of grocery. Just make sure the clothes are reasonably colorfast, because it takes out color that's not permanent.

  • How do u wash rabbit urine out of clolthes without dammaging the clothing. what if the stain is already set?

I would try treating the stain with a product called Simple Solution. It is an enzyme based product that is made to treat pet stains. You can get it at PetSmart or a store like it. It comes in a spray bottle as well as a one gallon jug. If I were in your shoes, I would probably pour some of this in a small basin (like a dish pan) and let the stain soak awhile before washing. How do u wash rabbit urine out of clolthes without dammaging the clothing. what if the stain is already set?
LOL. Spray Shout on the stain and let it soak for an hour or two, overnight if the stain is strong enough. Then wash on warm/cold with detergent. How do u wash rabbit urine out of clolthes without dammaging the clothing. what if the stain is already set?
    i have no idea

I have a RED unknown stain in my AE Henley I KNOW it won't WASH out, any other way to get rid of it?

I need a way to either cover it up or get rid of it, any help is needed! :)I have a RED unknown stain in my AE Henley I KNOW it won't WASH out, any other way to get rid of it?
Maybe if you tried one of those Tide To Go pens it would take some of the stain out..? They usually work on mystery stains. Good luck with getting your stain out!!!I have a RED unknown stain in my AE Henley I KNOW it won't WASH out, any other way to get rid of it?
I really like a product called ZOUT.

We have three boys %26amp; so far it has gotten out whatever I have used it on including, blood, rust, chocolate, grease %26amp; grass.
If it's a washable fabric, soak it in cool water with a couple capfuls of dishwash liquid, rubbing gently from time to time. If that doesn't work, you could try soaking it in milk. These two remedies work well for blood and other protein stains. If it doesn't come out, Do Not Put It In a Dryer. Once you do, the stain will set in and not come out by any means. Then your only remedy will be to sew an applique (patch) over it.
Red is probably rust of some sort. Look for a product called Whink's in the local grocery store and try that.
Try hairspray on it,,,, rub a bit, then rinse with cold water, do not put in dryer... it will set the stain...

    also, may try oxy clean.

If a crayon is washed w/ a load of laundry & the clothes are also dried will the stains be set?

    Most likely. Try: http://www.crayola.com/canwehelp/stainti鈥?/a>

for suggestions, though. If a crayon is washed w/ a load of laundry %26amp; the clothes are also dried will the stains be set?
Pretty certain this is permanent. You could try some type of spot remover like Carbona. Chances are though it probably won't help.

Sorry. If a crayon is washed w/ a load of laundry %26amp; the clothes are also dried will the stains be set?
YIKES....probably ruined. If there are not a million stains, you could iron with a piece of paper towel over top to help remove the wax, just keep putting a fresh piece of paper towel in between the iron and clothing until it no longers soaks into the papertowel. Good luck!

How can i get red wine stains out of beige trousers after two washes?

Well if you put them in the dryer, it may have set the stain in. I would try OXY clean, get the spray, if that doesn't work, nothing will. Also you can try warm water and salt and scrub together, but the OXY clean will work better. How can i get red wine stains out of beige trousers after two washes?
Should've eliminated with white wine, may not work now washed and dried, how about dyeing them if they were nice fitting pants-maybe you should go for a darker colour if you drink red wine!!!!How can i get red wine stains out of beige trousers after two washes?
Try a product called Wine Away. It takes out anything red.
Try shampoo. I heard it gets blood, wine and chocolate out. If you dried them, then you permanently put the stain in. If you can't seem to get the stain out, the call the manufacturer, DKNY, Polo etc. They all have customer service reps that could help. Maybe it won't come out of that material. They would best let you know. (Or the store that you purchased them from)
If you dried them after washing them it wont come out. The heat from the dryer set the stain and nothing will take it out.
A product called, Oxcy Clean powder, (make a paste ) let it sit

it also get's out ink !!
That's a tough one %26amp; once set, it's hard to do. The other answers are very good so I won't repeat, but I will say that when it happened to me, it was less stressful to go out and buy a new pair.
Apparently rubbing white wine into stain then wash as normal gets rid of red wine. Ive never tried it but lots of people say it works.
No way Jose, wear them in the garden and buy a new pair.
    Buy some new beige trousers.
You should have bought stain defenders like the commercial said!
    dd27
Greased Lightening Orange Clean, it's a god send.
You may not believe this but if you take a towel or handkercheif, rub it in some dogdirt, then on the red wine, the stain lifts right out.
have you tried club soda? it takes red wine out of carpet.
if u dont get the stain out, then instead of throwing out a good pair of trousers, bleach them, they will turn to a different colour and the stain wont even be there,...this is just a plan B, hopefully u will have good resluts with a plan A
It may not work after drying or using other chemicals, but always remember....White wine removes Red wine.
Vanish (pink bottle, sold in supermarkets) is supposed to be very good! did wonders for my clothes
wet the area of stain sprinkle with white chalk and leave for 1 hour then wash you should then find that the stain is gone

Any tips on stopping black tea from staining cups? I can hand-wash them, but the dishwasher is hopeless.?

Add a couple of drops of lemon directly into the cups before washing / dishwashing.

This does work!Any tips on stopping black tea from staining cups? I can hand-wash them, but the dishwasher is hopeless.?
    Hi

salt or bleachAny tips on stopping black tea from staining cups? I can hand-wash them, but the dishwasher is hopeless.?
    BiCarbonate of Soda.
put enough water in cups to cover where the stain reaches and then drop a denture (or 1/2 a denture) tablet into the water and it will clean the tea stains from the porcelain cup same as it cleans the stains from porcelain dentures - can also put sink full of water with all of your teacups and a few denture tablets - cleans all your cups and your sink at same time

Bleach will only help to wear off the rest of the ';enamel'; coating that helps them to not stain as bad and it will keep getting harder to fight the stains

also works on helping to keep the toilet clean in between cleanings (drop tablets in toilet before going to bed and brush when first wake up)
Rinse them out immediately after use and then leave them full of clean water if you're not going to wash them immediately. Best way to get them clean again? Denture cleaning tablets.
Vinegar :) if your dishwasher can handle it, off course
I find using bleach works, but always frightened of remnants, so I use bicarbonate of soda. harmless but efficient. Or Milton sterilising fluid and soak for 20 minutes.
Hey, forget all these chemical stuff - too bad for the environment.

Simply use lemon juice and all your problems in this case are resolved.
Because of chemicals used in the process of tea making a scourer wet will get rid of most stains but if deep ingrained a touch of bleach %26amp; cup full to brim with cold water leave for about one hour rinse well in hot water works for me but,I do feel the bleach weakens the china over time as eventually my cups break.
This is easy! Just don't drink black tea. Hehehehe!
get some sterilising fluid leave in cup for a little while rinse all gone
My remedy is bicarbonate of soda (baking powder will do). Just make a solution of one teaspoonful per half pint of water and leave it in the cups. Stains will disappear. For deep, stubborn stains, rub bicarbonate of soda over the cup with your finger and you'll find that it will go as if by magic. You can also use this remedy to get rid of stains in your teapot. I keep a good supply in the house at all times. Nature's remedy!

Avoid bleach --it leaves a horrid taste.
I put a little bleach in them, then fill with water. Leave them a few minutes, then rinse real good. No more stains!
soak the cups in 3 parts water and 1 part Clorox---guaranteed to remove the stain without you touching it. Just remember to rinse the cups once the stains are removed.
    I agree with Special Ed.

Use a solution of laundry bleach and water. Fill the cups, let stand overnight.

    Wash and rinse well after.

    Problem solved! :-))
a suirt of bleach and fill the cup up with water let soak and then wash a few times
Rinse them out with warm water when you've finished the drink before washing and in between making drinks. That way there will be no residual staining for either you or the dishwasher to contend with. Failing that, if they are already stained, just soak them in bleach for a bit.
if u try hydrochloric acid it will burn thru the stain and probably the cup too. But, at least it will be clean. DONT drink out of it for about a100 years tho just in case..... Other Acids are available. Always read the label.
    Buy black tea cups.
There is a product called OxyClean. I'm guessing they probably have a website if you don't have that product in your store. Try www.oxyclean.com. It realy works!
Use a liquid bleach...let stand for a few minutes, then you can wash in dish washer.
I use thin bleach to bring my cups back to their shinyness!! just fill your cups to the brim with warm soapy water and add a few drops of bleach. i usually leave them for half an hour then wash them in some really hot soapy water and they're clean and don't smell of bleach either.

i don't know any way of preventing it tho i'm afraid. its the tanin that does it i think.
fairy power spray is excellent. just spray in cups leave for a minute, then a quick scrub and rinse. easy peasy!!!
you answered your own question. is it so hard to wash them by hand
Use fresh, filtered water every time to reduce staining in the first place (it also helps reduce the build up of limescale in the kettle) . For already stained cups, use the Magic Eraser Block from www.lakelandlimited.co.uk . I have an aversion to anything that claims to be ';magic'; or ';miraculous'; but this thing really works. It's made of melamine foam and just requires plain water and a light rub to remove the stain. Stained tea spoons come up a treat and it works on all sorts of other things too!

Most importantly it doesn't leave any potentially harmful residues in the way that bleach or other high strength cleaners tend to do.

DON'T use a scourer. It will put microscopic scratches into the surface of the cup which will, over a period of time, make the staining worse and more difficult to remove.
Get a bowl of water and add bleach put your cups in for an hour, rinse thoroughly at least twice wash in washing up liquid dry as usual, sorted, do this about once a month the dishwasher never gets the stains out, this is the only solution I use or you can replace the cups every couple of months but that will be costly.
a bit of elbow grease and a scourer.... try filtering the water that you make yourtea with... i know it sounds mad but it minimises it..

Is there away to get stains out of washed and dry ed clothes?

Absolutely!! I've had many items come out of the dryer, only to discover that a grease stain or grass stain was still there! There is something that has worked every time for me:

I use Gain so I put a little Gain directly on the stain, let it sit while I load the rest of the clothes, then rub the stain and toss it into the washer. It removes even set-in stains and I've never had to go back and re-treat!

You really can't specify a time, since it depends on a lot of factors. The correct answer is wait until it has completely dried.

Sunflower oil stain on tshirt (wash again or buy a new one?)?

Is it likely to come off somehow? I don't know if its oil or pineapple juice, but it wouldnt come off just with water when I tried, so maybe oil.

It isn't a huge awful stain, but it is there, looks a bit like shadow but I keep looking at it now.

I don't know if I should buy a new one, it wasn't expensive anyway and I do love the top, so always handy to have a spare I guess.

Or should I wash it in the machine or use something special to clean it?

thanksSunflower oil stain on tshirt (wash again or buy a new one?)?
Pineapple juice is a minor stain at best and it should come out with a regular washing. Since it didn't come out, you will need to treat it as a grease stain. Dishwashing liquid works well on grease, oil and fat based stains. Dawn dish liquid is one of the best grease removers you can buy. Apply a little directly on the stain and allow to penetrate all the fibers. Let sit for a while, fifteen to twenty minutes, then wash in the warmest water that the item can handle with a good liquid laundry detergent.

I would soak it in something. I would put it all in a sink of room temp. water with lots of Oxi Clean or something and soak it all night long.

Here is a link below on home remedies and what it says to do:

    http://www.mrscleannw.com/tips/lipstick-…

Before you do anything, check the label of the affected garment to determine the fabric. Since many shirts require special treatment such as dry clean, you may need to take the item directly to the professional. However, if the lipstick stain is noticed once you get home, start by creating a plan of attack. Keep in mind that lipstick is an oil-based cosmetic. Therefore, you want to use remedies that will combat the grease. First, we recommend you always use a pre-wash, which will definitely help.

Start with alcohol, which works well. Do not rub, or you'll spread the mark. Simply take a clean, white cloth and moisten it with alcohol. Then, blot the lipstick stain, which will disappear. Another home remedy is dishwashing detergent such as Sunlight and Dawn, both formulated to fight grease. For this method of lipstick stain removal, dab on a little detergent, let it set for about 10 minutes, and then gently begin working on the stain from the outside edges inward.

Another great home remedy for removing lipstick stains is ammonia. Just about everyone has ammonia at home for cleaning and if not, it can be found at any grocery store for just a few dollars. Again, start by blotting off as much of the stain as you can, using plain water. When done, use a cotton swab moistened with ammonia to dab at the stain. Once the stain begins to fade, wash the shirt by hand in warm soapy water, preferably using Dawn dishwashing detergent.

Finally, hairspray is an old trick used by women (and men) for years. As long as the fabric will permit it, spray right onto the stain, and then let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes. In most cases, a clean cloth moistened with warm water is all you need to wipe the stain away. If your find this method of lipstick stain removal does not completely remove the stain, repeat and then wash by hand using Dawn or Sunlight.

    Another website:

    http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-best…

Rubbing alcohol can help to remove lipstick. Put a small amount on your clothing and blot until the stain has vanished. This may need to be repeated several times until the stain is gone. “Rinse” the fabric by blotting with cool water.

To remove lipstick from clothing, rub in a little petroleum jelly and massage until the stain disappears. If a greasy stain is left behind, sprinkle on some baking soda to absorb and launder as usual.

Hair spray doesn’t only work on ink stains. Use it to remove lipstick stains as well. Spray a bit on and blot with a damp cloth. Repeat the process until the stain is lifted and launder as usual.

Finally, if you have a stain that just won’t come out, contact the lipstick manufacturer’s costumer service line. They’re sure to have plenty of useful tips to help you to remove lipstick from your clothing.

I take clothes out of the wash with mysterious yellow stains?

I've noticed for a while that when I take clothes out of the wash that occasionally one garment or two (usually shirts) will be stained a mysterious light faded yellow color. It looks like a bleach stain, but no one in the house uses bleach. The stain isn't hardened and we do have hard water and a high level of radon (just on the line for regulations). The stains don't go away after washing again, any ideas?I take clothes out of the wash with mysterious yellow stains?
Sometimes the enamel in washers cracks and rust creeps through and can put tiny rust stains on garments. You can try cleaning those spots with rust remover and rewashing, but cleaning anything with heavy duty cleaners may ruin the garment so be aware of that.I take clothes out of the wash with mysterious yellow stains?

I have rust stains in my washing machine. Is there any way of getting of rid them?

There's a product on the market called Iron Out. It comes in liquid and powder. Janitorial Supply should have a rust remover that you can use. If not that try Navel Jelly from the auto parts store.
try a product called CLR that cleans calcium, lime and rust stains
    Try scrubbing them with wd40
fill the tub up and then put in CLR thats the name of the product and let soak then scrub should come out that stuff works good.

  • Any advice for getting yellowish stains out of white clothes after several washes?

I have noticed that when I wash brand new white underwear, socks, bras, etc., over time, the garments develop a light yellowish color due to the water in my community. Someone in my house has contacted the water company several times to address the issue. The water company is insistent that there is nothing wrong with the water except for a slightly high level of sulphur. My family cannot buy white clothes because of this problem.Any advice for getting yellowish stains out of white clothes after several washes?
I have had a similar problem here in Costa Rica. I just take the items and soak them in a bleach/water solution. I leave them for about 1 hour and then rinse in the regular cycle and dry as normal. It works every time. I use about 1/2 cup bleach to 4 gallons of water.

Another solution via Martha Stewart: To whiten cloth napkins, linens, and even socks, fill a large pot with water, and drop in several slices of lemon. Bring to a boil, then turn off the heat. I have that problem, with hard water, out here in the desert, I soak my whites with OXI CLEAN, along with my detergent. then rince, then wash , using HOT water, Hope this helps, a little extra work, but worth it.....
Using cold water helps, and adding a cup of white vinegar to the wash also helps to keep clothes white.
use Zonrox bleach......we use deep well water here in philippines and our white clothes get yellowish after washing many times.....we just used bleach
THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED IRON OUT IT WORKS GREAT JUST ADD IT TO THE WASH, ALSO HOT WATER I NOTICED STAINS WORSE, SO TRY USING COLD WATER INSTEAD

Wash, Stain and Finish a deck. DIY or Hire someone?

We just got an estimate and it came in at $700, I estimate costs to be around $400...

Anyone have some opinions on this?Wash, Stain and Finish a deck. DIY or Hire someone?
you can do this yourself easily. you do not need a really strong pressure washer because you don't want to damage the wood. a good, low cost electric pressure washer will get the wood clean, and it's nice to have one around for general outdoor cleaning and maintenance. unless you just hate the natural color of the deck or it's already stained, you can just put a weatherproof sealer on it.Wash, Stain and Finish a deck. DIY or Hire someone?
    so easy

you can't screw it up, do it your self save the money. Powerwash, and buy a stain with the sealer already in it. Shouldn't be that much i did a 450 sqft deck for around $150 for the brushes and stain. Borrow a powerwasher from somebody if you don't have one.
If you have to rent power washer $100 per day, deck wash $30,stain $25-$30 per gallon, tools for stain application $40 %26amp; wait one day to dry then stain. For about $200 you can DIY.Enjoy your deck %26amp; extra cash in your pocket!!!!! P.S. stain covers about 300 to 400 sqft.
Easy to do, just time consuming. If you enjoy handy man work, then do it yourself.

If you get tired or bored, you can always call in a handy man to finish.
size deck? you need a power washer to clean the deck assuming its wood. the price sounds reasonable for a large deck of 200 sq. ft. or larger.
That sounds like a fair price.

If you like doing this yourself have fun.

If not, take the bid and spend your day doing something else.

    Best of luck.

What can I wash my laundry in to give it a consistent stain, in effect covering up the other ones?

I have a couple of stains in laundry that just won't come out. What I'd like to do instead, is simply stain all of that clothing evenly so it's the same color. I have no idea what I stained it with before though. What I'm looking for is something I can add to my wash that will basically darken all clothes to match the stain so it doesn't stand out. What can I wash my laundry in to give it a consistent stain, in effect covering up the other ones?
There are several fabric dyes that you run through your washing machine. Rit brand is one.

However, I'd be concerned that in the process, you'd also make the stain darker - and end up right back where you started. I'd test it on an older garment first. What can I wash my laundry in to give it a consistent stain, in effect covering up the other ones?
    Oh that's rich!
Tea works well - I have turned an expensive Italian lace tablecloth from white to ecru quite successfully.

You can make your tea as weak or as strong as you like.
fabric dyes. (Comes in all sorts of different colors)
i've done it with coffee. grape juice works too, but do you want to look like barney?
You could go to the fabric or craft store and buy some Rit Dye. Rit Dye comes in all sorts of colors so I'm sure you'll find one that's right. It's simple stuff, put the color tabs in water and soak the clothes. Hope I've helped.

How do I keep my white t-shirts from getting yellow stains in the armpits after I've washed them many times?

I heard something about using cold water to wash with, and not drying them in high heat. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.How do I keep my white t-shirts from getting yellow stains in the armpits after I've washed them many times?
Yellow underarm shirt stains are likely caused by a combination of deodorant and perspiration. Many deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminum salts. When these salts are combined with laundry detergent, especially in cooler water settings, they are not easily dissolved, and they remain on the fabric.

To remove the stains, try soaking the shirts in warm water with an enzyme pre-soak product or rubbing the soiled area with white vinegar. Wash in the hottest water safe for the fabric. If the stain remains, dampen and sprinkle stain with meat tenderizer. Let stand for about an hour, and launder again.

To avoid new stains from forming, always wash the shirts in the hottest water safe for the fabric. Also, allow antiperspirant to dry completely before dressing.=)How do I keep my white t-shirts from getting yellow stains in the armpits after I've washed them many times?
Change deodorant. If you are going to try to salvage the t-shirts you can mix laundry detergent and white vinegar, pour it on the stains and let the mixture soak in good, then scrub with a toothbrush or fingernail brush. Wash as you normally would. I don't think hot water will hurt the shirts, but drying on high heat does seem to make fabric a little crispy sometimes, so I would avoid the high heat in the dryer.
Yes, ';Shout'; will help. But I use laundry bleach. I spray first, then let it sit for about 45 minutes, then wash as usual. This takes care of the problem, and I don't have to do it every time ... usually about once a month. The dryer won't have any negative effect.
To be honest, that shouldn't happen if you wear different Tshirt everyday. Those yellow stains are due to excessive sweat, deodorant, and/or cologne. Well, soak them in bleached water will removes them.
I found that if I spray with a laundry product ( like shout ) and let it sit a while, this really does a good job. Clorox in the water (*hot) will help also.
    Anti-perspirent.
Pour vinegar on the pit area before washing.

How do i wash fuel stained clothes??!?

Any way to wash??!!How do i wash fuel stained clothes??!?
My mom throws liquid household cleaner like Mr. Clean in with her wash water along with regular detergent and a little bit of Febreze to get rid of the smell. Works good. How do i wash fuel stained clothes??!?
Gasoline On Clothing: Gasoline is an oil based product, therefore, use another oil based product to pull out the odor (which is left because all the gas oil has not been removed yet). You can use any kind of oil that normally washes out of clothing, like baby oil. Put some of the oil into the washer along with the clothes, let it swish around for a while, then put in the detergent and all should come out okay.
Add a little oil to react with the fuel.
mix water and shampoo into a bucket.then dip your cloths into the bucket.wait for 10 min.its gone...

  • How to wash clothes with multi colors without the colours staining to another?

Hey I always have a problem that when i wash a new tee shirt, one of the colour will come off and stain to other part of the t-shirt with another colour. How to avoid this? How to wash clothes with multi colors without the colours staining to another?
you can attempt to wash the item in cold water with an anti-run detergent, but if you have had this problem repetitively you might want to consider getting your shirts dry cleaned. How to wash clothes with multi colors without the colours staining to another?
well do you break it down to darks, lights, and whites? Or to be on the safe side do what i use to do and wash it all by itself.
separate those with the same colourz!
Usually and washing the item in cold water. Don't use hot water as the colours run really badly. Wash the item by itself on gentle cycle (if you can get over the guilt of using water like that) and some products are made particularly to stop colours running. Check the supermarket, I think Preen has a product.
Wash the dark colors and the light colors in different loads in cold water.
wash it with your hands. no machine.
    dry wash it!
Wash in cold water and make sure you don't use bleach or a detergent with a bleach additive. They make Woolite for colors now, I have never used it, but have seen a commercial for it.
you should check with your detergent first if its too strong change brand. If you're using the concetrated liquid type , dont put too much, stick to the instructions or put less. Anyway you can just wash them again if you're not happy. NEVER ever use bleach. If you're using washing machine put it in the right cycle for colours i think it makes the water a little cooler so the dye wont dissolve.

Try to segregate your coloured clothes. Those dark coloured ones will less likely stain on the others. But those batik, bright coloured ones are the usual culprits. If they havent run out of dye after the fifth washing i suggest you wash them individually by hands.
    Two things:

    1. Use cold water for the first couple of washes of new items. I use cold water in general, because it uses less energy.

    2. With bright colors, especially red, wash the item seperately the first time.

This usually does the trick for me. Warm and hot water really make the colors/dyes bleed.
Either wash the clothes in cold water or send them to the

dry cleaner. It's probably best to dry clean those types of T-shirts

Why are there strange stains on my t-shirts after washing?

    A number of my t-shirts are developing odd ';stains'; after washing. Sometimes I will purchase a brand new shirt, only to find that after it has been washed once or twice, these odd stains begin to appear, and the shirt is essentially ruined. I am including pictures below;

Thanks! Why are there strange stains on my t-shirts after washing?
I was just thinking about your question as I was doing my own laundry. I too was having this problem and I was trying to remember exactly what it was - but it was a process of elimination. Fabric softner will leave a stain on fabric if you get any on it. And usually it will ruin the fabric. If you are using softner check your dispenser, mine was leaking. When the machine would go through a spin cycle it would spew softner out. I think my problem stopped when I started using my Downey Ball again. But I also washed down the drum, the agitator, and under the washer lip where the lint collects. I ran bleach thru the softner dispenser as well as the bleach dispenser and then ran an empty load to make sure there was no residue in the machine. From there, I had no more stains. Hope that helps. P.S. I don't really use bleach since it wears the fabric and dulls some fabric colors (like red underwear becomes pink underwear!). So now instead once a month I collect all the white socks I can find in the house (clean from the drawer, laundry baskets, etc.) I fill the fabric softner dispenser with a little bleach (about 1/4 cup) and the rest with water and 1 cup of bleach in the bleach dispenser and run a Super load. This keeps our socks white and my machine clean. I fill the softner dispenser with bleach because I have hard water and it leaves calcium deposits and stains on my dispenser and this helps keep it clean. Why are there strange stains on my t-shirts after washing?
The brown stains are due to iron in the water reacting with your fabric softeners and depositing on the fabric in blotches.

Test stained area with salt %26amp; lemon juice ( make a paste %26amp; apply to stain) - If it disappears then it's Iron.

    1. Stop using fabric softeners.

    2. Add vinegar to final rinse to solubelize iron and flushed it away eliminating those horrible stains.

    Good luck!!
do you use liquid softner? it might be that. try to pre-treat the stain with a paste of detergent and water or put some shout or somethig on it then run it through the wash again and see if that helps. I was getting these blue stains on my white t-shirts and it turned out to be the downey softner I was using I have since switched to dryer sheets. also always check the wash basin of your washer to make sure there isn't something in there messing up your clothes. do you work with chemicals? or cook greasy foods that splatter? it could be that too. Hope I helped!
Greasy-looking spots can come from dryer sheets too (i.e. if the dryer sheet sits against wet or dry clothes in the dryer too long). As well, grease spots/oil spots on clothes can be a sign of a mechanical problem with either a washer or dryer. If you rule out the soap and fabric softener as a problem, you may have to look at the actual machine. Check your washer/dryer manual under stains. By the way, the shirts might not necessarily be ruined. Apply full strength soap to the shirt and let sit for an hour. Then wash in warm water with the water level at medium, using the amount of soap you normally would for that size load. I have this problem sometimes with my shirts and 9 times out of time, the stain is gone afterwards.

PS: Here's something I pulled off the GE website:

I am getting oil on my clothes/floor.

To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug this appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.

Greasy or oily stains on clothes:

The 1995 and newer washer transmission design makes it highly improbable for oil from the transmission to get into washer and splatter on clothing. Most of the time it is caused by splatters from cooking oil. Stains from foods or cooking oils, sometimes called ';invisible stains';, may not be noticed as you put clothes in the washer. If not completely removed in the wash cycle, the oily spots may pick up dirt from wash water making the spots visible. The washer does not cause these spots.

    To prevent:

Wash garments as soon as practical after wearing, using more detergent than normal and the hottest wash water fabric can stand.

    To correct:

Rub in undiluted detergent, let stand 30 minutes and rewash, using hottest water fabric can stand.

If your water is extremely hot, 150 degrees or higher, the water inlet hose(s) could start to break down, causing black greasy stains on clothes. Refer to the Use and Care Guide for your water heater, set the temperature accordingly, and replace the inlet hose(s).
I think it could be from fabric softner.
Looks like grease. Check to make sure you don't have any grease down inside your washer and make sure the stuff you're adding in there doesn't have grease on it.
the stains are deffinitly your detergent/fabric sofner when poured right on top of your clothes it does stain them ...im only guessing but im guessing you throw your cothes in the wash turn the settings on and then pour the det/fs on top well if so STOP lol think about it it still takes time for the washer to fill with water so the liquids are just setting in that whole time . fill your wash with your clothing then put your setings on after it has filled with the water put the liquids in it should help as for the stains already you can use oxyclean it works for the stains put on the clothes in my household hope i helped

Where can I find temporary hair dye that won't stain my hair and will wash out in a few days?

Go to Kroger's, Walgreen's or any drugstore and Get Natural InstinctsWhere can I find temporary hair dye that won't stain my hair and will wash out in a few days?
There are beauty supply shops all around! Just pick one, and if it isn't the store you thought it was, pick another. Although, try not to listen to the owner/cashier/person who works there too much because they like to talk you out of buying something (although I don't see why they should--they're getting money!!) and not explain why if you don't understand. It's kind of frustrating, so make sure you know what you're getting before you actually do it. And if anything should go wrong (e.g., it doesn't wash out, it stains, etc.) then I would call the company and get a refund and possibly a treatment from them. Also, I can't recommend any brand names because... well I'm just not good like that. I can't tell you what's good and what's not because I simply don't know, but I can tell you to think thoroughly before purchasing. And if something should go wrong, call the company (your right as a customer). Good luck and happy dyeing (that sounds nice... well you know what I mean:))
There are many types of ';play'; gels or sprays out there that add temporary color to hair. Unfortunately, with blonde hair, they tend to be a little more than temporary, and end up staining the hair a little longer than what you would want. Try finding some clip in hair extensions if you want to play around.

  • What causes the rust stains on your clothes from the washing machine?

what can i do to stop it?

what causes it?What causes the rust stains on your clothes from the washing machine?
Rust stains can come from a number of sources, but one that is very common is from ';iron eating bugs.'; They are type of bacteria that react chemically with iron pipes. And even though most modern houses have PVC pipe, the supply lines coming from the city water are very often iron. The community in which I live has a particularly bad problem with them. It does seem to be seasonal, so I don't have the problem all the time

Two things you can do. First to remove the stain, you can use oxalic acid. It is a bit hard to find, but you might find it at a drugstore or hardware store. It is an organic acid that comes in a power form. Be sure not to eat it...it is toxic to eat, but won't hurt your skin. When it is dissolved in water, it will react with iron and tie it up so that it will remain in solution. I usually apply a small amount of the material in solution to the stained area and then rewash the garmet.

The second thing you can do is to filter your water. The bacteria tend to agglomerate together, and thus they are easily filtered out. It is essential where I live, to put a filter on the water supply to the ice maker in my refrigerator. Otherwise the lifetime of the icemaker is greatly reduced.

For a washing machine it will be a much larger filter. But if you have severe iron problems and expensive clothes, it might be worth it.What causes the rust stains on your clothes from the washing machine?
I had rust stains on clothes from a oil leak in the aggitator. Best to have a mechanic check it out so you dont get others and ruin more clothes. Report Abuse

Most likely the garments with ZIPPERS and METAL BUTTONS you are washing are beginning to brake down. There may be some that have came off and are lodged inside the washer itself. Good Luck and Live Well.
    um, rust?
The tub in your washer is rusting. You can try to repair by sanding and painting the area(s) , but it'll be right back shortly.

Apparently the washer is getting up there in it's years.

Maybe it's time to think about a replacement... unless you can find a deal on a new replacement tub and know how to swap it out.

How do you get a stain from colors bleeding in the wash out of a sweater ?

I washed a turquoise cotton sweater with a blue rag and the rag left a blue mark on my sweater right across the chest. I love that sweater, but am about to give up on saving it. I've tried washing it twice now and it's faded a little bit but still there. How do you get a stain from colors bleeding in the wash out of a sweater ?
    # Separate colored items from unstained items. Sometimes the color may be subtle, so find something truly white to compare everything to or you may think an item wasn't affected and put it in the dryer by mistake. Make sure the offending colored item is out, too!

    # Wash multi-colored items by hand, or in a washing machine without bleach.

    * Fill the washing machine with HOT water. Use an amount appropriate to the amount of laundry you're left with - more is better than less.

    * Add bleach. A cup of regular bleach should do for a small to medium-size load. Add more if necessary, but remember bleach is potent stuff and it also smells. You should not combine chlorine bleach with non-chlorine bleach. The two products will cancel each other out. Don't use bleach with items that are not completely white, as it will remove all color - not just the undesired highlights. Instead, use all-fabric bleach and other laundry brighteners.

    * Add the laundry. Run the load with as much agitation/washing as possible. Let it run through a full cycle to wash the bleach out.

    # Check again for coloring. If the color is not gone from the items, wash them again as described above.

    #

    Avoid using a hot dryer

Dry items as usual. Do not put anything in a hot dryer unless it's completely washed out or you're comfortable accepting it the way it is. You might want to air-dry items that retain a hint of color, as putting them in a hot dryer will set the color for sure. It may still fade more through repeat washings if it isn't set.

Consider dying the items again to a more desirable color. This is an option for items such as towels or sheets that retain a hint of the undesired color. Even if they won't come white again, ';new'; green towels may be better than accidentally-faded-in pink. If you're feeling creative, instead of throwing out a discolored item, you could make it a novelty by tie-dying it!

Certain fabric stabilizers will absorb dyes and act as ';color magnets'; in your wash load. Also known as ';interfacing';, stabilizers are found where fabric is sold. The absorbent ones are more similar to a thin sheet of foam than a dryer sheet, although not made of foam. Experienced clerks at the fabric store should know which works best.

If you don't have bleach, and if the items are cotton and you catch the mistake right away before the color sets at all, you can use all-fabric bleach instead. You'll need more of it, and it's best combined with other laundry brighteners, such as Oxi-Clean. This stuff isn't as strong on purpose, so you'll need more. Add baking soda, too, if you like. Be careful combining chemicals, but in this situation more cleaning products are usually better than fewer.

    # Can also purchase a commercial color remover which is usually found near the clothing dye supplies in department or grocery stores. Follow the directions on the box. The commercial color remover works very well in removing accidentally dyed white clothing.

    # There are oxidizers other than bleach. Hydrogen peroxide (3% to 5% solution) is a very useful oxidizer and is worth trying before using beach.

    * Another useful technique is to try washing out the stains in a couple of gallons or liters of cold water with 1/2 cup [120 ml] of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon [5 ml] of liquid detergent.

    * Lowering the ph of the water in the wash cycle will reduce the amount of chlorine bleach needed to wash clothes. Add 1/4 cup [60 ml] of white vinegar (5% solution) to the wash water as the machine fills. This lowers the ph level in the water. Next, add 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons [5-7 ml] bleach. That's a lot less bleach necessary to do the same job as well or better. If you use this technique, however, be careful not to use larger amounts of bleach or you risk injury by chlorine gas.

    * Finally, you can try washing miscolored clothing in powdered dishwasher soap. It sometimes will take out what other detergents leave behind. Use a mixture of 1/2 cup dishwasher detergent and 1/2 cup all-fabric bleach dissolved in a gallon of water. Just be aware that this is a last-ditch effort to be used when the only other solution is to discard the item(s).How do you get a stain from colors bleeding in the wash out of a sweater ?
Jeez, Jake, your mom taught you well!!!

Just go and get some oxiclean and dissolve it into HOT water in the sink, or a laundry bucket. Let soak for overnight.

Rinse, repeat with a paste of oxi and hot water if it is not already gone. Let it sit and harden for the day. Rinse. It will be gone. Honest.
Stop by the local cleaners and ask what they would recommend.
In the supermarkets you can buy products which will take out color runs. You just add them to the machine wash. They really do work. Hope your Sweater gets better soon...

How do I get out stains I got from the washing machine? I haven't dried yet...?

One of my blue summer shorts stained almost all of my other clothes... I don't really care about the clothes except the new one I just bought! :(.. I haven't put it in the drier yet so it's not set in...Someone please...How do I get out these blue stains???How do I get out stains I got from the washing machine? I haven't dried yet...?
Take the items stained with the new color and make the hottest wash cycle that you can, add soap and add 1/2 of what they say to add for bleach. As soon as all is mixed in the wash well, turn the washer off for 1 hour to over night. Then resume cycle and check for bluelessness. If some still remains, you can repeat, only leave a little longer in the 1/2 solution of bleach. The tendency is to use more to solve the problem. Use less and lets it soak evenly. If they are all white, a little (KEYWORD LITTLE) blue will make your whites actually appear WHITER. If they are yellow, the blue will make them look greener....not so good! You can repeat this a time or two, after that, I would simple add the blued item in with towels and whites every time until de-blued. I had one that was red for 7 runs. But it finally came out. Be patient, and once an items is de-blued enough, remove it and dry it outside. DO NOT PUT IN THE DRIED UNTIL THE BLUE IS GONE! That way, if some mystery blue streak is still hanging on, you can run it one more time. Hope this helps you! Good luck! How do I get out stains I got from the washing machine? I haven't dried yet...?

What's a good way to paint/stain/ or any way to rejuvenate the sidewalk? It's not city busy traffic but like little small town strip kind of traffic.

I was hoping we can paint the sidewalk to make it look fresher. Is there a good way? Thanks for any help.Painting Sidewalk? Concrete paint? Acid wash? Stain? High traffic?
Hello, You want to clean the concrete with TSP (Tri sodium Phosphate) and a stiff bristle brush. Any dirt left on the surface and you willl have poor paint adhesion. After which I would acid wash with a 1 to 4 solution of pool acid. 1 part pool acid to 4 parts water (apply this with the stiff bristle brush on a broom handle also). After which you need to rinse off with clean water to neutelize the acid. Let it dry completely. You can go to a paint store such as Pittsburgh paint or Sherwin williams and they will reccommend an exterior concrete stain for your project. I would not waste my time at Home Depot or the other home improvement stores. You want to go to a professional paint store for a good product and expert advise. TSP and Acid are fairly cheap. You want to spend a little extra on the paint (stain) and get a good quality product. I have done a couple of concrete surfaces with 1 part exterior flat paint to four gallons water repellent with good adhesion and wear quality. Good luck TerryPainting Sidewalk? Concrete paint? Acid wash? Stain? High traffic?
Is this city property? Because you can't fix or paint city property. If it isn't then Home Depot has new materials that you can use to refinish your existing concrete without pulling up the old and pouring new. They work really well but you have to have the knowledge and experience to use them. They also have concrete paint and stain. So if you want to resurface and then paint or stain. Or if you just want to paint or stain your existing concrete to rejuvenate it. These things are not real expensive either compared to pouring a new walk.

Why do rust stains appear when clothes are washed in washing machine?

The machine is very old (it's a Maytag) and a few of the little holes in the tub are a little rusty. But yesterday a white shirt came out with lots of rust splotches all in one spot. Why does that happen?

What can I do to stop it? I know how to get rust out of clothes (use Oxyclean), but I want to prevent them getting rusty in the first place. Why do rust stains appear when clothes are washed in washing machine?
Get some appliance touch up paint at the hardware store. Touch up those little rust spots on the drum of the washer with it. It happens when you launder garments with metal buttons, rivets and zippers, like jeans. They agitate and spin against the drum causing the paint to chip off. A little touch up paint and the problem is solved. Why do rust stains appear when clothes are washed in washing machine?

I sometimes just launder an item over and over (5-7 times) and let it air dry between washings as the heat of the dryer will often 'set' the stain.

Sometimes a cooking oil stain comes out this way.
My fiance's best man is a mechanic... he swears by the WD-40/ Dawn method...

Spray a small amount of WD-40 on the spot.

Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes

Then squirt some Dawn on the spot and work it in

Rinse off and wash as normal.

Hope it works as well for you as it does for him!!!
Hi..i would try hand cleaner like the mechanics use. It is cheap and can be bought at Walmart or Canadian tire. Rub it on, let sit for a half hour, then wash as usual. I use it for all kinds of stains.
Just put talcum powder over the oily area in your cloth. Wait for about 20 to 30 minutes. Then take off the powder. Wash with normal water. This will really work out.

What is causing orange stains on dark clothing after washing?

I have been finding ugly orange stains on some of my clothing over the past six months to a year after washing them (pictures below). It happens to random clothes - only to dark t-shirts, but not all dark t-shirts (I have one that I wear all the time that has no staining at all). The stains become more discolored and get larger the more I wash the clothing. I recently purchased an expensive concert t-shirt that is black and after the first washing noticed some orange staining on the underarm area (this was where it was most prominent) and at the end of the sleeve.

What could be causing this? I am using 'All' laundry detergent. I don't want to ruin another shirt... especially one i just purchased for a good amount of money...

Why does white clothing come out of the wash with stains they didnt go in with?

I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I will have a clean new white T-shirts and when I take them to the laundromat and they are finished washing they have oil looking stains on them that they didn't have before they went in. The washers are not visibly dirty either, does anyone know why this happens and how to prevent it? How to get my whites, white again and how to stop deodorant from ruining the under arms of my shirts. I used clear name brands but am not choosy and when the sweat and deodorant combine, they stain my shirts underarms and cannot be washed out!!! HELP!! Why does white clothing come out of the wash with stains they didnt go in with?
Use white vinegar for the arm pit stains. Pour it straight on and then wash.

It looks like someone is washing greasy stuff before you get to the laundromat. Might be an idea to wash a load of towels in really hot water in the machine you want to wash your tshirts in. That way the grease will be cleaned out before you use. You could put a can of coke in with the towels and the coke will clean any grease there is in the machine. You could also try putting the can of coke in with your tshirts when you wash them. You can't beat coke for removing grease and odor. Why does white clothing come out of the wash with stains they didnt go in with?
First you should apply deodorant before retiring to bed this way the deodorant has a chance to dry into your skin and therefore will not leave that white mess you are experiencing on your shirts, and to remove this white mess from your shirts you should use Baking Soda and a little Dishwashing Liquid and make a paste then scrub with an old Toothbrush and wait for about an hour then toss into your washer with the hottest water your shirts can handle and then cold rinse Or you can:Remove deodorant stains . Baby wipes remove the white marks left behind by most deodorants. Just wipe and you鈥檙e on your way. Good Luck !
As far as invisible stains go, I know if I've spilled milk on my shirt and put it in the wash it'll come out as a stain.

Always take a damp cloth to any thing you soiled as soon as it happens. It's better for your clothes (and for the environment too.)
The oil stains might be coming from other clothes in the load. Make sure you pretreat everything ahead of time %26amp; if you've worn things to cook, or work in an environment where you come into contact with oil, wash those things separately.
If the water isn't at least 120 degrees. You will have a hard time removing. Touch glass to test temperature. Let the laundromat people know or go elsewhere.
If you use fabric softener and it touches the clothes before it is diluted it can leave a yellowish light brown stain.

How do you get rid of stains caused by other dark coloured clothes in the wash? Normal stain removers work?

I washed some friend's clothes (all coloured) together in the laundry, but the dye in one of the dark coloured pants probably was washed off and stained a few pieces of my other slightly lighter coloured clothing. Have tried many stain removers, soaking etc, but have not been able to remove the stain. Any other methods or brands to recommend? How do you get rid of stains caused by other dark coloured clothes in the wash? Normal stain removers work?
There are products specifically made for removing ';bled'; colors. I'm sorry, I don't know the name.

Plus, I found this suggested solution:

To remove colors that have bled onto clothes, run at least two inches cold water into bathtub, mix 1 part bleach to 2 parts white vinegar and add to cold water, mixing together well. Add clothing 1 piece at a time. If solution is mixed right, you should see the colors (that bled) disappear instantly; otherwise, add more cold water. Hint: you should not be able to smell the bleach over the vinegar and always be in a well-ventilated area. To prevent color transfer add anywhere from 1 to 2 cups white vinegar to wash cycle. How do you get rid of stains caused by other dark coloured clothes in the wash? Normal stain removers work?
i use oxyclean. for this use a scoop or two. they also now make these things called color catchers by shout. what they do is, they are kinda like a magnet for the dye. the loose dyes that come from the clothes when you wash them get attached to the color catcher and not on the rest of the clothes. you can now wash colored clothes together.

they really work great. the oxyclean will loosen the dye up and the color catcher will catch the loose dye.
Synthrapol - this product is used by quilters to eliminate color runs in quilts. Used in a basin or in the washer it will remove fugitive color without damage to the original color or fabric. Synthrapol works best on cottons, but i've had success with polyester and blends too.

Try it in an inconspicuous spot first, unless the item is a total loss and you feel you've got nothing to lose. This is a fairly strong chemical, so be sure to follow the directions carefully.

    Other Products:

Carbona Color Run Remover - One box of Carbona will restore a whole wash load of clothes dyed from mixed-wash bleeding. You MUST test the fabric to be sure it is color-fast (place a drop of water on inseam or other inconspicuous spot, blot with a white cotton ball or towel, if cotton ball remains white then it is colorfast, if it picks up some color then it is not), otherwise the garments' original color will be romoved along with the fugitive color. Follow directions carefully and use great care. This too is a strong chemical. It may be harmful to synthetic maaterials, denim, or bright, fluorescent and khaki colors. Zippers, buttons, etc., may become discolored, so you might want to remove what you can prior to treatment.

RETAYNE - A color fixative for cottons, Retayne is an interesting product that you should use BEFORE washing a garment that is likely to bleed. Just think of this as an ounce of prevention. Not only will this PREVENT bleeding, it will also help to keep colors brighter, longer.
a coupla scoops of oxy-clean in with each load on the rewash, it'll oxidize those stains right outta there
Clorax has a bleach out just for colors.. might try that.. or some shout, or spray and wash.

    WASHING bloody period stains?

bloody, brown, gooey period stains. wash them out of good new panties. can't keep waste my money buying new panties. trying my best to keep undercarriage clean as possible but really have trouble. ty.WASHING bloody period stains?
It's always best to wash them out as soon as you bleed into them...and with cold water. I don't know why, but cold water helps get the blood out. You could try bleaching, but if your panties are colored, then that wouldn't work out so well.

Anyway. There's plenty of stain removers out there, but it's better and more effective if you scrub the blood out as soon as possible! The longer it sits in there, the more likely it will stain. Cold water and ivory soap has always worked for me! Hope that helps. WASHING bloody period stains?
my mom-in-law, who is a nurse, shared with me how they get blood stains out of hospital linens:

soak the stain in hydrogen peroxide.

pour your hydrogen peroxide in a bowl, and submerge the stained portion of the panties, let sit for about 20 minutes, then wash with cold water and detergent.
Soak in cold water, spray with stain remover and wash in warm water with biological powder. One tip, buy yourself some black panties for 'those' days. You probably already opt for darker skirts or pants on those days if you are having problems so complete it with black panties.
I've always used Dawn Dish soap and Cold water, do this as soon as you get blood on them and then if you can put them right into the wash and wash on cold this usually takes the spots right out but if you let them set you will have a harder time getting the stains out.
i just spray mine with spot spray and soak them with borax (with detergants) for a while then add detergant and wash normal always workswith me and i dont always wash it right away either and i am always getting it on mine under cloths
Rince them out and wring them out.

Soak them in hydrogen peroxide. That creates bubbles which removes the blood from inside the fibers.
Yep, best if you get it while it's still pretty fresh. Cold water and Dawn dish soap works pretty darn good. Dawn is also good for grease stains in shirts.
i usually soak them in cold water before i wash them. i wouldnt scrub them tho.
First wash in only cold water. Later soak in soap water, wash well.Dry in sunlight.
